Food and wine together is my favorite thing about this hobby. I cook dinner for my family probably 4-5 nights a week when I'm not traveling so we try lots of different food and wine options. I thought it would be fun to have a thread that people can pop into and share recent pairing that worked either at home or out at a restaurant.

To start this past Monday we made avocado toast for dinner which consisted of grilled bread with a little olive oil and flaked sea salt topped with mashed avocado, paper thin slices of radish, roasted seeds for crunch and topped with some lightly dressed baby arugula. I love gruner with green veggie type dishes so we pulled a 2013 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Vinothekfüllung that worked really well. Clean and crisp to cut through the fat of the avacado but also rich enough to stand up to the flavors. Tasty.

I like your idea, GlennK.

Last weekend I did some basic grilled burgers with standard mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion. We paired it with a 2015 Ridge Geyserville, and it was great. It's not a gloppy, overripe Zin by any stretch, and it was great with the grill flavor from the burgers. The wine also went well with rosemary oven fries.

A couple of nights ago at a restaurant we had a 2015 Nikolaihof, Gruner Veltliner with some excellent chili crab, satay (tempeh and chicken) and char kuay teow. Worked really well, even though I didn't appreciate the reaming of the 3 times mark-up on the wine.
That is a pairing right up my alley. Sounds great.
