Hello,

I just broke my Bordeaux Grand Cru stem last night. The bowl is fine and there is still about an inch of the stem left.
I used to work at this wine bar and we used to have this candleholder looking bases that we glued to the bowl if customers broke their glasses (if bowl was fine). I used to call them bases but I guess that's not the right name for it since google has no Idea: P
Do you guys know what I’m talking about? Know the name or where I can get one?

It kind of look liked these but with wider base:

Thanks,

Ok this didn't come out right. We Sold Riedel Sommeliers glasses to customers and we had glass case that we kept their glasses in there with their name on it.
They would come in and ask for their own glasses to drink out of. we only repaired their glasses not the bar glasses and only if they asked for it.

If I saw someone glueing a candlestick to the bottom of a Riedel Somm I'd probably blow wine out of my nose. I'm with Baird. I'd be bummed, but I'd let it go. New stem, please!

Couldn't agree more! If you can't handle breaking one, than you shouldn't be drinking from it. Crap happens. Get over it and move on.....

I am in the same boat. I will go 6 months without breaking one, then I break 2 in a week!

I am stocking up on the cheaper Riedels when they go on sale at Winners (Canada's TJ Maxx). I usually pick them up for $5-6 per stem. I really can't tell the difference between them and my $20 Riedels.

Baird: What kind of Riedel glass are you talking about for 5-6$? I would love to get some of those! I am sure there isnt a difference between the two. Although, I do enjoy the Bordeaux glasses I have because the bowl is fairly large and wide.

Dave/KSC: I like the Schott Zweisel glasses also, have the chardonnay ones. Nice long stem and I havent broke one yet but will keep on trying Smile

The chardonnay glasses are very nice. You should try their Bordeaux and Dessert wine glasses as well. The bowl shapes are fantastic IMO.

Speaking of breaking these; I had a Bordeaux glass roll off a countertop onto a ceramic floor a couple years ago. Two bounces later, not a chip. It was then that I was sold.

Schott Zweisel Triton.

They'll take punishment that would shatter any Riedel or Spiegelau.

Sure I've broken a couple, but dropping a heavy object 3' onto the glass will break most stems.

Cool I so agree. We have the SZ Diva's and absolutely love them!

We should call you Gigond Aspen. It's got a ring to it.

We should also count the rings and see if we can figure out your age from them.
