Fine Watches

As of last month, Sinola can no longer claim Made in America. I think they are moving towards assembled in America.

Either way, the company is employing locals (500?) to assembling watches along with other products as well.

As Parcival said, these are a fashion watch ( quartz movements) that clearly have a place within the marketplace.

I wish them well.


My wife bought me a Shinola Filson watch, it is a great everyday watch to have. So far really enjoying it.

Rob, I would buy that strap in a NY minute but so hard to find. Let me know if you know of a source, please. The suede strap that the watch came with will develop its on patina over time.

Rob, Don is sending me my new Metta Catharina strap today. Cool I will send you a picture when I get it.

I can't thank you enough for hooking me up with him. He had issues making the strap to fit the 2016 version PAM 422 but worked through the issues and was great to work with.

Don just ordered some leather from Japan he is excited about. He is going to send me pictures when he receives the leather. I'm always open to a new strap for one of my watches.

Glad to be a help! It's such an amazing leather. I"m glad he could come through!

That's the worst and best thing about Panerais, it's so easy to change the straps you end up with a lot of them. I just put a new toad strap on my wife's PAM111 from ABParis. Looks like a toasted mashmallow (creamy white bottom with the tops of the toad bumps grading up to a toasted brown) and it's stunning.

DD, a timepiece that was created after a train wreck in the late 1800's that was due to a malfunctioning watch.

Their movements were ETA for many years but I think I read they moved to their own in-house movement recently as many have with the major Swatch market takeover, but not positive.

W+A, I wouldn't say I am in a market for a new watch. But I am always looking for a piece that will be a good addition.

Thanks for the info on the Ball. The saleswoman alluded to a train accident as to how the watch company got started. She also said that all the movements now come from Switzerland. I did not know that it is part of Swatch.

Did it get flooded at some point?


I wore it in the Bahamas in March, including when I went in the pool, and noticed some humidity inside the crystal. When I put my hand on the crystal to warm it up, the mist eventually went away.

I am trying to recall whether that had happened before, or if this was the first time. It probably happened before but I just can't remember.

I'm curious, when was the last time you had the watch serviced prior to this happening? The gaskets will dry out for sure if not serviced.

I just had the gaskets replaced on a Rolex I own.

I never had it serviced. I bought the watch, used, about 3-4 years ago, so I hadn't gotten around to getting it serviced.

I just had my Rolex serviced, and was thinking about getting the Omega done as well when it crapped out.

nope I'm wrong here, i had thought the polar was the white dial/face but you can change the hand colors but nope
it's that distinctive orange hand.
