It is a casual day for me today and I'm wearing a Panerai.

The PAM 347 is really the classic PAM 321 with a metal band. I'm a fan of the P 9000 movement ( in-house) and think you would enjoy the watch. That said, I do love Zenith as well ( excellent movements) and you cannot go wrong here. Does the Zenith have a metal strap? Not sure I have seen that watch with metal before.


The Zenith does have a metal strap yes. The face is just a lot busier than the Panerai so I'm concerned I'll not like it over the long run, which is why I'm leaning toward the Panerai, along with the in house movement.


Much busier for sure. The Panerai sandwich face is classic and clean for sure.

Like W+A, I have a Panerai with the in-house P900 movement. I'll leave the pro's/cons list to him, but I have been pleased with mine so far. It's hard to truly gauge a movement's reliability/consistency without a number of years of service to compare. That said, so far, so good. It's been as good as my Blancpain, which is the gold-standard in my small collection.

I opted for a vintage leather band rather than a metal band to suit the look I wanted in my PAM.

FWIW - I've noticed no significant change in my personal sex life since owning the PAM... Razz

PAM564 is a pretty watch. I never had a problem with shirt cuffs and a 44mm Luminor but I guess if you have somewhat tight button cuffs and a big wrist you could have an issue.

Pulling the trigger this week. Saw the Zenith and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Not sure which I want but I am going to decide by the end of the week.

Depends on the shirt - I have one that just won't go over a 44M (Canali) (PAM other, as I own 2 44M), but that's the only one that is super-tight on a 44M timepiece.

K, very much. I'm going to wear it tomorrow as a matter of fact.

I went several years without a PAM, and now have my eye on buying one more with the power reserve in the back in lieu of the face.

I have changed the band on my 388 a number of times already. Smile

As a Radiologist, I prefer the X-Ray route. It's good for business, and I have kids to put through college.

JD, I know only what I have read in watch forums and magazines. It is my understanding all of their watches are quartz movement. ( like 98%+ of all watches) They are assembled in Detroit with the major components coming from Ronda. I also think one of the major investors came from Fossil.

Sorry, wish I have more information for you. I know that GlennK was looking at one at one time. Perhaps he has more information.

W&A, you're correct re the major investor from fossil. I've owned one for a year and half and really like it for a weekend/casual work watch. Personally I think they are significantly nicer than Fossil. Short time frame, but no issues yet Smile

Thanks for the detail and background W+A. I'm a bit of a strange bird, in that I love watches for their design, engineering and beauty, but I absolutely HATE wearing any kind of jewelry and don't wear a watch. As soon as I get home, I even take my wedding band off, because it drives me nuts. I'd love to own some of these pieces because they certainly appeal to me, but they would end up sitting in my drawer collecting dust. I know, call me crazy.

I was curious about the Shinola, because I've seen a couple models that looked great and have seen numerous articles, mentions, and other PR in a number of magazines. Being American made/assembled it really caught my eye. I was curious if this was a great grassroots story coming out of Detroit, or some very shrewd marketing and brand building. May be a bit of both?

I'm a big fan of my Shinola and wear it as much as my IWC Pilot. Keeps great time. My wife liked it too, so I bought her one and she loves it.
