I have to admit, I'm at a loss and have no idea what the previous posts Dok edited were... I just saw he had taken out his posts and assumed he didn't want what he had written made public so I took it out of my quote (and made a pithy remark Devilish ).

To keep it on the Fine Watches topic though, I tried on a Patek 5164A (the new Aquanaut Travel) last week and it's the new grail. The one ring to rule them all (and do it all). Tuxedo, swim trunks, jeans or a suit it would never have to leave my wrist.

Cool

Rob, does this watch have a rubber type band?

Do you own any watches with rubber/synthetic bands?

Yes, it has the "tropical" band on it. It's exceptionally comfortable. My Chopard Mille Miglia had a rubber band but I replaced it after a keeper came off. The new band is beautiful and makes the watch much more formal but I wear it much less now because I don't want to get it wet, go in the shower etc.

I've come to the realization I don't like metal straps as much as leather but I also hate taking a watch off to jump in the shower every morning (case in point I'm not wearing one now because it's on the window ledge in the bathroom...).

I bet you if I had that Patek I would wear it 90+% of the time. I'd keep my Chopard and JLC Reverso because they are special to me but the others could probably all go.
Thanks for the info, Rob.

I have been curious about rubber or synthetic straps. I'm down to only 1 metal band myself and MUCH prefer a skin strap, ( own multiple) but must admit they are hotter here in Texas. ( we only have 4 weeks of winter Wink ) I have even noticed how I never notice the skin straps in Santa Fe which is never hot and always has very low humidity.
For new leather straps I can't recommend abp atelier du bracelet Parisienne enough. I've designed and put their bands on every one of my and my wife's watches (she has three for her panerai).

The chopard strap looked like a tire and was textured in a way that it was wearable for formal clothes and didn't look out of place. The Patek is the same way. Plus in heat and humidity is is quite comfortable as well, as long as it isn't too tight.

ROFLMAO!
Just got my star wheel back from the watchmaker. It needed it's routine cleaning. It is the only one of my watches with a genuine AP leather strap. It is looking and working perfect. My only concern with leather straps is that when you wear them often, they show signs of wear and tear that the stainless does not. At the cost of OEM straps, it becomes very expensive to replace them every couple years.
It's still my favourite timepiece hands down.

Yup. It's why I don't wear a watch with a leather strap during the summer.
I recently picked up a black gator strap for my Constellation from a seller on Ebay for something like $40. The ebay store is Kelaran USA. A few of the members on one of the watch forums mentioned them. Ships out of the Tampa area and they claim it's local Alligator and made in the USA. Fantastic customer service and a great product so far. I purchased an alligator wallet / card holder from them 6-8 months ago and it still looks new. Thought I'd pass it along.

Gee thanks, now I have to sift through 700+ options and buy a second strap for my Blancpain. Up until now, I've beena ble to hold off based on excessive costs... Razz

While I'm at it, why does no one here talk about Blancpain?

I do appreciate you costing me little $$$ THIS time!

I am not sure if Kelaran is still in business. I tried to google them and looked online and nothing opened allowing me to search their web based store. Sounds too good to be true. Anybody have any suggestions?

Just purchased from them last month.
Try this link Dok.

In my haste I forgot to mention I needed gold hardware, she dropped the clasp in the mail for me right away. They have earned my business.

Thanks to this thread I just picked up a black alligator strap for a Burberry watch that I never wear because I hate that original Burberry pattern strap.
Thanks for the heads up. I was able to shop online and I found an ideal strap. Unfortunately, they DON'T ship to Canada. Bummer. If someone doesn't mind purchasing it for me and ship to Canada, I'll happily reimburse. Alternatively, I can purchase and ship to someone in the USA and have it shipped.
As my youngest son would say, "this is a real first world problem". I cannot disagree, but what the heck.
