I too was following this auction and thought the watch may go North of the $10M estimate.

Not bad for a watch that sold for around $200 originally. I love the engraving on the back his wife added of, Drive Carefully Me.

I have also seen many more bund straps being advertised this week than I can ever recall.

Hammer prices for most everything else at yesterday's Phillips auction were almost as insane. None of the buyers seemed concerned about any market correction occurring anytime soon.

I should of just called him. Big Grin

Perhaps this is a sign? My trigger finger is a bit itchy on an Omega Planet Ocean 232.30.42.21.01.002 myself.

Bigfoot, pull the trigger! Wink

I have a new piece in my sights for a December purchase as we speak.

Hope we can have a wine dinner soon.

I’m not sure whether I wanted you to prod me so or not? I think I need a glass of wine to consider this... Razz

Hey, it’s not like we are talking about an A. Lange & Sohne. Razz A solid very affordable timepiece. Send me a picture via email, please.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Sports coat will work, though. Wink

I too like what they and Tudor are doing with canvas, especially for summer wear.
Will send a pic if I can make the acquisition. Based on your prodding Wink, I have made an offer.

With the two of you approving, how could I go wrong? Men of great taste clearly.

Rob, on the rare occasion I “suit-up”, I go to my Blancpain Leman chronograph in white gold on alligator strap, so have that occasion well-covered.

Yours as well. Was able to include the bracelet and rubber orange strap. Thinking of adding a Hirsh as option #3. Pic incoming...

Anyone ever own this watch?

Smile you never struck me as a 'Rolex' kind of guy, w+a

K, good to see you posting!

No, I am not a Rolex guy. The brand is less than 3% of my collection, thank you very much. Razz

That said, they do have some fabulous tool timepieces that I do have a soft spot for.

I had one at one time. While I loved it in the beginning I soon tired of looking at all those moving parts when I just wanted to see what time it was Smile

Thus, while I greatly appreciate the engineering, I just found that it got a bit 'monotonous'

Unless you like having a mini hockey puck attached to your wrist, my advice would be to pass on the DSSD. It wears very "large" due to the engineering needed to be waterproof to 12,800 feet.

If you're really considering getting a Rolex sports model, invest in a vintage version instead. You won't have to worry about the impact of bumps or scratches, you'd be hard pressed to ever randomly run into someone wearing the same watch as you, and they hold their value extremely well (as in, they continue to rise in value other than during the Great Recession).

Personally not my style. Too busy and hard to read. I do enjoy observing the mechanics of the movement from the backside.

Not sure that sounds right... Big Grin

I concludes the same thing. I thought a tourbillon watch might be a nice compromise but then I saw the price tags on the one I was interested in and decides I'd rather own a vacation home.
Just ordered a Casio G-Shock Gulfmaster for myself and man I haven't been this excited in a while.

Solar powered, time synced to the nearest Atomic Clock (my favorite feature), built in altimeter, barometric pressure, compass and temperature, plus all the usual chronograph functions. The watch also tracks the tides and phases of the moon and of course it's a G-shock so I can be as rough as I want with it and not have to really worry about it holding up to the abuse. Now that is what I call a smart watch.

I'll be in the Caribbean next week for the holidays and plan to put those tide and barometric pressure sensors to the test while searching for pirates.

Pic of the version I went with:

Cool picked it up Friday !

Any ideas where to get a canvas strap ?

Congratulations! Which PAM?

The two that seem to get a lot of support on watch forums are, Holben’s for canvas and Brandy Straps for sailcloth.

I have bought numerous leather straps from both DONS in Canada and Toshi in the U.K. for both of my Panerai watches. I also have a strap made from Metta Catherina leather thanks to Rob.

Got the PAM00577 Radiomir 1940
Love the strap it came with, just want a second one to wear in summer or water activities.

Thoughts about the ABP site mentioned in this thread ?
