Fine Watches

I keep hearing that Omega isn't what it once was, but the Broad Arrow is just a gorgeous timepiece to my eye anyway.

I was going to get this Zenith

But there's NO way I'm paying $4.99 shipping!

Also, a watchmaker friend says that the quality has gone downhill recently. 3 random opinions, but I generally respect all 3 when it comes to watches, so it's been giving me pause, even though I'm pretty sure I'll bite the bullet come tax refund time.

Don't even get me started this year. I double paid my payroll taxes this year because I switched jobs (not of my own volition). Made an even larger interest-free loan to the komissars this year than usual. I don't really mind though since they're so responsible with my money and treat it like they earned it themselves.

Have a TW Steel TW1 that I love, but looking for a second watch...

Any suggestion in that price range in similar style but from other brands ?

I don't know how one could by anything named Shinola unless it's a shoe polish--too much association with that saying.

Glenn, I have no experience. Looks like they are trying to pick up where Hamilton was both in style and being American made prior to 1984 when Swatch took Hamilton out.

Shinola are also all quartz movement so they will be very affordable.

Please post if you buy one.

There are excellent wines under $25 - $30, and there are excellent watches under $1000 as well.

The new JLC Master Ultra Thin Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon is a pretty amazing watch and I think my favorite new one of the year. Automatic, tourbillon, minute repeater and 7.9mm thick. One of the gongs is actually the crystal back… Amazing watch. And such a deal at only $400k…

I was invited from my watch pimp to a Panerai meet and greet to see/try on their new 00518, 00519 & 00520 watches. I was told they only produced 50 of the 00518 and 100 each of the other two.

I was still in Cabo so missed the event. I did talk to a friend that went and he said they were pouring NV Krug.

I'll wear something nice on that festive day but you won't be seeing that one on my wrist! The list of things I could do with that kind of dough which I would enjoy more is longer than my arm!

The only watch I see myself buying in the future at this point is a PP 5164 or 5167. If days became really really good then maybe a PP3738 in white gold or a FP Journe Octa Reserve de Marche in platinum. but days would have to be really good...

That 518 and 520 are both really nice though!

The CEO of Zenith ( love their watches) is moving to Rolex to be their new CEO.

This will be Rolex's 4th CEO since 2008. The watch world has changed a great deal over the last 15+ years and Rolex is feeling the changes more than most.

Didn't know there was a watch thread here. I'll take a look back when I have more time.

I currently wear a Glashutte Original Panorama Date. Below is a picture. It's not my actual watch, but an identical model. I don't know who's wrist this must be, but it looks like a little kid. The watch actually looks fairly small on my wrist and I don't have big hands/wrists at all.

The prices have gone up in recent years and is probably pushing $50K for a white gold version. They recently introduced a platinum version that goes for much more. I think it's absolutely beautiful.

Seeking a little advice from watch lovers.

Noticed that my blue alligator strap is leaving an unsightly blue stain on my shirt cuffs. This is not due to perspiration, but just the strap rubbing against the cuff.

Have others encountered such a problem? How have you dealt with it?
