David Cross hits a sweet spot for me. I generally find his rantings against Christianity a little much, but his other material makes up for it.

One of his stand ups is available for instant watch on Netflix now, it had me crying with laughter last night.

I think my all-time favorite, though, is still Don Rickles.

I stayed up all night playing poker with tarot cards.
I got a full house and four people died.
Right now my favorite is Louis C.K. He is on my short list to see live.

Worst stand up show I have ever attended was Dane Cook. Someone at work gave me tickets and told me he was funny. Half the audience laughed uncontrollably and other half looked around and wondered what the hell are these people laughing at. I was in the not funny camp. We actually bailed out half way through the show.
Stand up?

All-time: Woody Allen

Current: Lewis Black or Chris Rock (also my second and third all-time choices)

All-time Runners up (no particular order): Steven Wright, Steve Martin, Rodney Dangerfield

All-time Second runners up: George Carlin, Robert Klein, Jackie Mason, Jerry Seinfeld, Sam Kinison

Favorite bit: Sam Kinison World Hunger

When someone tells me they like Dane Cook, I can pretty much gather what I need to know about that person.

Mouthbreather! Razz
i have a friend who was on the comedy circuit for a few years and I saw him (and 100's of others) perform countless time.
IMHO a comedian who is awesome in a small club (i.e. jim norton, mitch hedberg, steven lynch) may not do as well in a large arena and/or television audience (rock, carlin, cosby, pryor).
I also happen to enjoy the comedian who does not do an act as much as riff with his/her audience (dave attel, michael joiner, etc)
Overall Howard Stern has made me laugh harder and longer than anyone else, but in terms of pure comedians it would be rock, hedberg and handful in third

Hey, hey, hey, now. I didn't say I appreciated his high-brow, cerebral approach to comedy. Different strokes, right? Big Grin

Currently, I'll go with Lisa Lampanelli followed by Sarah Silverman

Have always felt Sarah silverman was overrated- both in looks and comedic skill. To me, it seems like she has always gotten more credit than deserved because she was a female with above-average looks. Although I did love her song with Matt Damon, but that was because Damon was hilarious.

Whitney Cummings (or even Tina Fey) are, imo, much better looking than SS
Chris Rock
Eddie Murphy
George Carlin
Greg Giraldo
Zach Galifianakis
Russell Peters
Emo Philips
Dimitri Martin
Dave Chappelle

the worst comedian, who is not even funny, is Dane Cook. What a tool! I know I will be hated for that comment but I can't stand his "mostly plagiarized jokes" shows.

I can see how some can resent him, but not even funny? Have you seen Vicious Circle objectively? What bit is plagiarised there?Hilarious.

It annoys me he doesn't drink though. That more to do with my own guilt though. Norm McDonald doesn't either.
