Last couple of nights

2015 Felsina, Chianti Classico, Riserva

2016 Raul Perez, Bierzo, El Rapolao

2012 Stefania, Syrah, Coastview

2020 Damien Coquelet, Morgon, Cote du Py

The Perez was outstanding. Still half a bottle of the Stefania left to finish later but initial (fuzzy) thoughts were it is the best bottle of this I've had yet (5th bottle of 6).

Last 3 nights:

- 2016 Mount Peak Zinfandel Rattlesnake Vineyard, very nice, maybe overpriced

- 2001 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, outstanding! Rich, complex, seamless, very long, joy to drink right from the deep, dark fruit on the nose. A few months ago I had 1982 and 2009 Leoville Las Cases side-by-side and thought they might be my red wines of the year; this QC is right up there with them (and 2006 Redigaffi).

- 2005 Domaine Louis Boillot Pommard 1er Cru Les Fremiers, good but probably has seen better days; excellent acidity is keeping the remaining fruit alive. Should be consumed soon.

Tonight, 2005 Chapoutier Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac, one of my favourites from this region. With casarecce and lots of sautéed mushrooms, parmigiana, truffle oil, etc.

WIML: love all wines I’ve ever had from Huet and JJ Prüm (while doing some cellar rearranging yesterday found long-lost 2005 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese; all my other Prüms are much younger).

Anyway, yesterday had a lovely NV J.M. Labruyère Champagne Anthologie Grand Cru Rosé, which is a pretty good wine with a pretty long name. Light cherry nose, rich texture, good acidity, long finish, very nice.

Hoping it’ll be eclipsed by tonight’s Champagne.
