VeV loved that radikon.  and really - the sherries acoss the board were stunners.   Food was great, company was outstanding.  Didnt even set a couch on fire this year.  The art wasnt bad either.

But no px?  Or did I just miss it in the long list?

2006 D'Arenberg Laughing Magpie.  Lovely wine.

Have you been dipping into Bob's cellar again?

We do have overlapping tastes in wine.  But differences too.  Which is more than fine.

One of these days Bob we will bring you over to the non-dark-rich-and-bold side of the anti-wine-flavour-elite.

2001 Château Rieussec

Perfection in a bottle. Served by itself with a Bayern Munchen win over the Spurs. Tasting note posted on CT and blogged.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one here drinking dessert wines and ports.  Then again, I don't check this thread very often.

I love Sauternes - brought a 750 of this wine to an offline that thelostverse hosted a bit ago. I still have a 375 that I’m holding.

You're not.  I have some more coming soon including a 1927 Dow.

I have 1 half of that 2000 Graham myself.  How did it show?  Drink or hold?

It was good but will be much better in a few years. I have a few halves and full bottles and will not open those or other 2000s for another 3-5 years or more. But I like my ports fully mature and have lots of older bottles to keep me going until then.

I only opened those bottles because we had a fellow portlover over who likes ports younger than do I.

Sounds good bman.  Thanks for the tip.  I'll make sure my 2000 halves sleep 3-5 longer.  I'm in no rush.  Like you I prefer them fully mature if possible.

Any thoughts on 2003?  I'm sitting on a six pack of Novals 750s right now as well.

My rule of thumb for drinking port when it's fully mature is 25 years, perhaps a little less for half bottles, single quintas or weak vintages. So I would let those 2003s sleep for another 10 years.

You may recall a group of WS Forums portlovers, most with much more experience and better palates than me (tsunami, KillerB and David from another forum)  did a port tasting at Berry Brothers in London in 2005. We tasted Taylor, Fonseca, Dow and Graham from 1970 and 1977. So 35 and 28 years old. And the consensus was that none of the 77s had peaked. But those are both top vintages, like 1994.

All of that said, Gman has much more port experience than me I think so perhaps he will weigh in!

Sounds good.  I was leaning heavily towards extending them since they are all 750mls and should all be long lived.

I was just working in CellarTracker double checking some of my drink by dates as a result of reviewing these ports.  I've accidentally purchased and laid down some wines that won't be ready to drink until I'm 83 years old!    Needless to say I need to keep a better eye on that.  Matter of fact, looking at what I drink versus buy I'm getting seriously close to the point of never buying another bottle of wine again.  Nothing more than simple daily drinkers like Chiantis for pasta night and Spanish garnachas for tapas night.

FYI had a glass of 94 Dow last Sat Night at a local steakhouse that had a bottle open. It was still way to fruity and primary for me to enjoy. I cant say that another 10 years would be enough to try again

If the bottle had been open for a while it would not be at its best or even be faded out.

I have some 2007 Dow halves that will like form part of our kid's inheritance before I drink a single one.

Bman, the Toro Albala Marques de Poley Amontillado Viejismo Solera 1922 is actually made from PX but it’s bone dry. It was fantastic.

Interesting. Never been much of a fine of dry sherrys but always open to trying something new.
