The idea of this thread is to help fellow forumites to track down some good buys at your local Costco. With the ever popular '00 Bordeaux at Costco thread, a good number of the forumites were able to benefit from it, so hopefully this new thread will be kept alive and well to serve it's purpose.

If you find some hot items, please take down the item number and pricing regardless if you are going to buy them.

Of course, timing is very important, especially for the smaller allocation items such as the 2001 Rieussec. So after you bought what you need, please take a quick moment to post the information (store location, wine, price, item #)so other forumites have the chance to get in on the good deal.

Novato Costco
2004 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc $12.69, item #296058
N.V. Buller Fine Tokay 375ml $10.99, item #296058

For those chasing the WS Top 100, some Costcos still have the 2001 Lafite at $129.99 including Novato, but I don't have the item# for this, sorry. Frown

You gotta be kiddin me!
I went there sooo many times just for that........
Argh, why you didn't send me an e-mail? Frown
I like it, Pyang. Nice idea.

For anyone who's interested the Costco at Damen and Diversey has 2001 Ausone for about $180 (I can't remember exactly, but it was around that price). That strikes me as a decent but not staggering price.

They also have Phelps Backus 2000 for $140. No thank you to that.
Great idea, Pyang! Thanks to y'all, I was able to get some 01 Suduiraut @ Costco before it sold out ... merci!

Thanks,
Peter

Man, do I wish Costco could sell wine in Canada! The St. Francis Cab sells here for C$30, the Lapostolle $34, and no one can undersell those gov't monopoly figures. The prices posted above make me weep.

I'm not sure exactly how my purchasing and drinking habits would change if we could buy wine at the Costco kinds of prices, but my bank balance would sure be different after a dinner party. Smile
Danville Costco, 2000 Dunham Cellars Syrah, they got one case by mistake, $33.99 (Item #693811), i grabbed a bottle.

They also have:
N.V. Buller Fine Tokay 375ml $10.99, item #296058
2004 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc $12.69, item #296058

As well as 2001 Ausone, Haut-Brion, Mouton...
Rhone Warrior...They have built several in Cleveland over the last few years, so maybe Columbus will be next. But for the few dollars you save I would not Wish for one...
Costco alert Plano Texas

Chateau Rabaud Promis 95pts 375 $17, 750 $35

WS TOP 100
Green Point Shiraz 93pts $15
Allegrini Veronese 91 pts $15.55
Bodegas Pacasios Rioja $9.00
Livonia Costco--December 4

2001 Mondavi PR $72
2001 Mouton Rothchild $142
2001 Ornellaia Bulgari $120
2001 Oreno $80

The 1989 Margaux has sat in the office for almost two years--not a good situation would not recommend buying any of them
Thomas,
Is it the '89 Margaux or Lafite that's been sitting in the office for 2 years? What is their policy on returning corked wine? Is it worth a flyer?
Seanr7,

It's very similar to Sam's Club (with the whole warehouse-like thing going on and membership required) but in my opinion, it's a lot better than Sam's Club.
Item Numbers
This is key to getting anything at Costco.
Note that the item number usually stays the same regardless of vintage.

I started making a note of the item numbers of high-end stuff recently.
Here's what I've got so far.

754826 Rieussec
754828 Suduiraut
487368 YQuem
21006 Dom Perignon
19488 Veuve Cliquot Grand Dame
432188 Leoville Barton
754605 Grand Puy Lacoste
623338 Gruaud Larose
754528 Chateau Ausone
31913 Penfold's Grange
489529 Phelps Backus
7736 Cardinale
242016 Insiqnia
423488 Merryvale Profile
69872 Far Niente Cabernet
DoktaP,

Take the wine back and they will issue full credit.

I took a corked bottle of 2000 Latour back and got full purchase price for it, although I would much rather have a replacement bottle.
Quick question...

When Costco has very limited production stuff in stock (e.g. Rieussec) do they usually have it out on the floor or is it hidden in the back?

-Brettay
Brettay,

Unlike the mad rush with 2000 Bordeaux, all the wines of late have been displayed on the floor. Your best bet is to have your in-laws to visit Costco every Friday morning to hunt for gems, as that's when they usually gets the goody delivered.
The item # is for when you call or visit Costco, they can look it up in their inventory system to see if the wine is available at any of the locations.

There are also occasions that you don't see the wine on the floor, which may just be hiding somewhere in the back or office. Wink
One of my cases of 2001 Rieussec in beautiful wood was on a pallette on an end cap. They had the fork lift out searching, but I sniffed it out... Big Grin Be persistant, most of their staff doesn't know Haut-Brion from Chateau Souverain.

Thanks for the list, Dave! Nice meeting you at the Wine Club tasting ... an offline would be great. I'm really curious about the Suduiraut now :-)

Thanks,
Peter
Dom'n'Vin'sDad,

They HAD 2001 Rieussec at the Cal Expo site...

Roseville location gets the good stuff consistently.
Roseville seems to be the best in the Sac area with Folsom right behind. I haven't been to the Rancho store since Folsom opened. Rancho used to carry good stuff, but I've not seen the good wines on Rancho inventory since Folsom opened. Only had luck at Cal Expo once.
The Costco's in Tampa definately do not get the quality wine that the rest of the country seems to get, but then I guess that's the price one pays for living in Paradise (kidding)!

Our local Sams Club (South Tampa) currently has the #60 2000 Ca' Bianca Barolo for $29 (that's a great buy for a 92 pt. Barolo)! There were about 2 cases there over the weekend. Smile
Nothing special, but anyone looking for holiday wines should check into this.

No item #, as I wasn't there, just got a phone call.

Novato Costco
2000 Flora Spring Trilogy 3.0L $94.99
2003 Acacia Pinot Noir Anniversary Special? 3L $83.99
pyang,

Had the 00 Trilogy Saturday night and it was pretty dang good. Faded a little the next day but at $95/3L I would reccomend buying.
Brighton Costo grand opening kind of a dud. The store was packed with people with full shopping carts but the wine department yielded no spectacular bargains. To be fair, there were some good prices on QPR and I did pick up a few items. They had Columbia Crest Reserve Syrah which I have not tried yet but did pick up a few bottles. I was hoping to find the Cab and Merlot reserves which I had before and really liked.

They had:

Opus One $129 didn't write down the vintage but there was a 3 bottle limit

Grgich Cab $51, didn't write down the vintage

Dom Perignon 1996 $100

Ridge Montebello 2002 Cab $74

Heitz Cabernet 1999 $104
