A variation on pippin's the first wine you purchased by the case to the last wine you purchased by the case....

my first was a Marchesi di Barolo Barbera d'Alba Ruvei 2000, the wine shop had a 20% discount on thier cost deal going on so that it cost me about $80 for the case...I was so new to wine not only did I think that was expensive I also thought I had purchased a Barolo.

my last wine by the case was oddly enough the Marchesi de Frescobaldi BdM 1999...I had a bottle while in Italy I purchased a case back in the states but the case I am consuming here doesnt seem to live up to what I tried there.
And the $500 spent doesnt seem all that much either.

My first case back in 1987 was Sutter Home White Zin Red Face

NO SOUP FOR YOU!(A Jerry Seinfeld reference)

I don't normally buy cases(there's just too much great wine out there to end up bored by the 12th bottle something), but my last was the equivalent of 2002 Insignia(6+3mags).
My first was a 1998 Perrin Cotes de Rhone Reserve at about $7/bottle.

Most recent was 2001 Artadi Vinas de Gain at about $20/bottle.

In my mind, both good QPR's that I could drink and not get tired of, the most recent being somewhat pricier but still to me a good value, and also, both regions, at the time of purchase, were not overvalued.

I am contemplating my next case purchase to be either 2003 Altos de la Hoya Monastrell Jumilla ($9) or Finca Luzon Jumilla ($8), a monastrell/syrah blend.

So the case of Ausone is not in my future, barring a sudden change in fortunes!
