I had a Capresso cooffee pot before the storm and it had the steam feature, but I hardly ever used the steam feature. I am still using a donated coffe pot, and am grateful for it! But now, I am leaning toward the Capresso MT500, just a coffe pot or the Cusinart model. The capresso made great coffe, but it is pricey about $179.00. Have any comments on the two units?

But you can drink wine? I am confused. I thought there had been several studies showing the health benefits of moderate coffee consumption (antioxidents, cutting risk of type 2 diabetes, discourages dev. of colon cancer, reduced risk of liver damage/disease, reduced risk of Parkinson's, and improved cognitive functions).

There's no correlation at all to the two substances, Keeno. There are plenty of medical reasons where a doctor would restrict caffeine that have nothing to do with the effects of alcohol. GERD, anxiety disorders, potential drug interactions, insomnia, caffeine sensitivity etc.

Yes, definitely see you doctor and get some treatment. The delicate esophagus is not something you want to be messing with.

There's an OTC product called Prelief that is designed to be taken with highly acidic foods. It neutralizes the acid and makes things like coffee and wine less agitating to reflux sufferers.

For some people, just losing weight, exercising regularly and stopping smoking will end the GERD. Unfortunately some of us have never smoked, and are at a good weight and fit but still have reflux.

Thanks - BTW, wasn't trying to criticize mpls wine guy, just didn't understand why he could drink wine and not coffee.

VT,

Not wanting to get preachy, but GERD is a MAJOR cause of cancer of the esophagus. The bad thing is, by the time you have problems with cancer of the esophagus, it is too late most of the time.

I lost a friend to this at 51 and he never knew he was sick until 12 weeks before he died.

Serious problem if not treated.

I take Prilosec OTC, it works somewhat. The problem is you are only supposed to take the two week course every four months. After about two I am back to downing Rolaids by the handful. When I first went to the doctor for throat pain, I could barely talk, and was coughing constantly. I thought that I had strep, nope acid eating away my esophagus. I have been thinking about going back and getting something stronger, but I'm the type who only goes to the doctor when on my death bed.
WOW. A lot of reflux and GERD going around. I had a endoscopy a little less than a year ago and it's nothing to be afraid of. And that's coming from a guy who had not visited a doctor for over 15 years. Stupid, I know. Been doing the Previcid thing since then and have been fine. VT, take care of business. I know you have some Italians that need some years of cellaring. Be there for them when they're ready to drink.
Yes, 2007. I still have plenty of time to come up with an excuse to cancel my appointment. Wink I mean what if it's nice that day and I want to go golfing. The appointment is in the afternoon, so that can play 18 in the morning. If I'm hitting it well, don't you think playing another round is so much more important than a little thing like my health? I told my wife that if I predecease her-- and I'm pretty sure that I will-- I want my epitaph to read:

A significant number of studies have shown that he should not be dead yet.

I figure it'll bring a smile to the faces of any mourners who might read it.

If she has any consideration for me at all when my time comes, my wife will do it, too.
