'Had a recent string of sticks, varying from just good to really, really good, including Viaje Platino Samurai Maduro, Illusione mk ultra, La Reloba Sumatra, Tatuaje La Riqueza Corona, Tatuaje Verocu Red Tubo, and Casa Magna Domus Magnus Optimus, but nothing measured up to the stick I'm bringing to Las Vegas this weekend. Wink So, SO looking forward to this event!
Just for the record, the string of stogies enjoyed by the founders' club "Wolf Pack" in Vegas this past weekend included:

Custom-rolled Cuban with a splash of Nicaraguan leaf for a little added spice. Large - double corona, I believe. Truly unique and incredibly harmonious for such a 'youngster.' Wow. Just wow.

H. Upmann Magnum 46 from '08, I believe. I've never had this as a mid-morning cigar, but it really worked. What a fantastic blend of great subtlety, yet full flavors.

Opus X LBMF at Casa Fuente. Despite the very likely youth of this stick, this was very enjoyable, especially the last half of the stick, IMO. We were also blessed that Tyee was able to join us for this smoke.

Opus X Super Belicoso from '08. This was the first time I've had this vitola, and I feel lucky that my first had 4+ years on it. Younger Opus Xs can show too much woodiness, in my experience - none of that here. 'Great way to finish!

My two cigars of the weekend, and without debate in a weekend with stellar sticks.

Our smoke at the Casa was an $$$ lesson learned, in my opinion.

What an enjoyable long weekend. Cool
Good Morning!

Finally, I am seeing through the "haze" of Vegas....took a full two days....I must be getting old!

Sorry I missed the Belicoso...Opus with age is always a treat...nice choice PH!

W+A...I agree, the tariff they get for cigars at the Casa is absurd! Im glad we didnt upgrade to the BBMF! The only benefit of the Casa were the potential 'silver dollars' that were dancing around all of us Cool Thank you for your generosity!!

Will comment on the food and wine in the offline thread.

Marcb7, the tariff was as expected, so no issue for me. My lesson learned was the excessive humidity required in Vegas for their humidor.

As we talked about, the cigars that may not sell as quickly (cost) are exposed to the excessive humidity in their humidor for far longer, and thus are too wet to smoke well.

I would buy some of their unique cigars again ( regardless of cost) but would not smoke them the same day. I also agree if we would have bought a fast turn cigar, we may have been just fine.

All this said, you, PH and I did discuss the silver dollar issue, and I'm convinced I'm correct. Cool

Oh, Stick took pictures. Wink

Agreed. I bought a Black Orchid while we were there (which I don't intend to smoke this year), but if I/we do something similar again, I'd say go with a lower tariff and enjoy a Casa Fuente (the house cigar). I bought a few of those, but now that I've got them home, I'll let them acclimate to my coolidor for at least a couple weeks.

You guys are my hero! That is awesome!

Ive had the black orchid...pretty flavorful and spicy but requires a full stomach even for a "seasoned" cigar smoker IMO.

W+A, yes, agreed on the humidity issue, its something you will find in most places actually so beware! The higher priced cigars dont move quickly, even when we are talking 15-20$/cigar. Most people wont pony up the $$ for this type of cigar...so a day or two of rest outside the humidor is required if its going to be smoked in the near future. Otherwise, a few months in the humidor will re-calibrate the cigar quite nicely.

As you all found with the Opus that PH brought, age is almost required to enjoy these sticks. The same holds true for the LBBMF we had, just a ton of tobacco that needs time to meld. The house sticks are more apt to be "good to go" out of the gate....food for thought!

You all taught me a lot about cigars this past weekend...I thank you for that!

...and you call yourself a friend. You let let me drop $500 on a few sticks we smoke, and THEN share this information with me. Razz Big Grin

The good news is I ended up back there ( not planned) on Saturday and picked up a couple of her big brothers to bring home. Cool

Well, it could have been 650$ if you bought the big brother, so I saved you 150! Big Grin

Left turn huh? Well that means something up in these neck of the woods as well....you did look pretty good Saturday I must say Wink LOL
Casa Magna Domus Magnus Limitada - excellent burn, and I've enjoyed every one of these that I've smoked, but none have lived up to the first two, which were magnificent! I'm wondering if the first two had a higher moisture content (as I've been keeping my coolidor around 65% humidity), and that perhaps this particular stick tastes better at a higher humidity. Any ideas?
Cohiba Siglo VI.

August 2011. One of the cigars I took to Vegas as an extra. When I put it back into the humidor I noticed it had a tiny fray in the wrapper on the foot due to the travel humidor. Decided to go ahead and smoke it yesterday. Burn just about perfect from start to finish. Only had to touch up the wrapper one tiny bit when I got around the band area. Roughly a 2 to 2 1/2 smoke. What a treat.

I think tyee did just that. Smile

I know he broke out a roach clip!

PH

It just doesn't count unless it's burning your lips!!!
You can't say I don't get 'VALUE' out of a cigar... Razz

Now...about the Opus X LBMF that w+a provided...

The cigar was a bit of an enigma for me.
On initial inspection (before lighting) it was hard/tight to the feel, my thoughts were it was too tight.
But was I ever wrong!...this rope smoked like a tender Cuban...easy draws.
My cigar burned even from start to finish...but then again, I cut off the nipple/pigtail to start...I'm not sure that had anything to do with it...

First half was medium bodied with layered spices...the last half fleshed out more full-bodied flavour, more leather, pepper, with some cinnamon.
The last 2 inches did produce some heat...but truthfully, not nearly as hot as some of the Cubans I smoke.

All-in-all a real nice smoke!

Thank you w+a
