I wouldn't touch the monte GE for at least a couple of months after you have received them.

Most vendors hold their cigars at a higher humidity so that they stay in good condition when shipping internationally.

Your burn issues seem to be due to high humidity as there hasn't been too much mention of construction issues.

Most of my box codes are TRC FEB 10. Let them sleep for a few months and then revisit. Hope that it will be a better showing.

I really like this stick's unique sweetness, but I've been going through different vitolas of the T52, trying to find the experiences I've read about in reviews. (In other words, "me too.") Next up: belicoso.

At $4 a cigar, this is an amazing QPR!

stickman - Did you purchase any more of these on this offer? I picked up a 10 pack with high hopes, and was a little underwhelmed. They were well put together and had a nice draw and burn, but I found them dry and woody with a little more heat than I like. Just wondering if I got a bad batch????

Confused Eek Dry, woody, and hot is certainly not how I'd describe the ones I've had. I haven't opened any from that offer yet, but the batch I got looked fine and had the normal, chocolatey aromas I've come to expect. 'Sorry to hear of your mediocre experience; I hope some humi-time will improve the rest.

I may pull one from this batch to smoke soon, just to check in on them. When I do, I'll report back.

Thanks, sir! I'll look forward to your report.

Um, ya. I see what you mean; woody is actually an appropriate description. Wow, is that disappointing. Frown I don't know what to say. These have been so consistent in the past (from three different batches). The one I smoked tonight had a slightly darker wrapper, but it was also thinner and much more brittle. How do I know? 'Cuz half-way through the smoke, I let it die of natural causes and dissected it to investigate. I have a few hunches, but I want to go back and smoke one from an earlier batch and perhaps dissect it as well before I make any statements.

What I can say for sure is that the ash on this smoke was quite different from previous ones. As nice and ashy-grey as this ash was, it was nowhere near the snow-white ash of the previous ones. If you care to share an email address, I can show you side-by-side pictures to demonstrate the obvious difference. Hell, if you're up for it, I'd love to send you a few of the old ones, so you can experience the smooth, creamy, chocolatey deliciousness these can have.

I'm really sorry. I thought this was a 'can't miss' smoke. Frown

So after I ditched that one I followed it with an Opus X Fuente Fuente (corona). It too was a bit harsh to my taste, but it was a big step up in complexity and sophistication, and I know it's a bit young. Still promising for its brethren, which will sleep for at least another year.

Stick, I will email PH your email.
Opus typically needs some time, although the 2010's are pretty tasty already, but surely will improve. The 09's were not very good in my opinion and wonder if they ever will come around.

One thing for people to understand, if you are mostly a cuban cigar smoker ( like myself) you are not going to find a non cuban that has a similar taste profile to your favorite island sticks. I, however, do enjoy challenging my pallet to other flavors that can be obtained by non cuban cigars. But, they will never live up to my "go to" cigars that I have aquired a taste for....just my two cents.

Stickman,

Were those Pepin's purchased from a discount online vendor? My guess would be, yes, which would explain your recent dissapointment IMO.

marcb7 - Can you expound on this please? I've purchased from this vendor before with a high degree of consistency between the sticks I've received from them and the same smokes purchased at my brick and mortar smoke shop.

Hey, it was my favorite $4 stick! Big Grin Wink

To console myself after my sobering experience with DPG, I lit up a Tatuaje El Triunfador Lancero (original blend/brown label, not the new blend/red-and-gold label called No.6) - also made by DPG's team. Thanks to Maverick's generosity, I've recently gotten to try several lanceros. I love how cool these smoke and how the flavor gets focused front-and-center on the tongue, but I do miss the billowy smoke and fuller flavor from even a good corona or fatter vitola. That being said, this was phenomenal - easily the most floral aroma I've ever gotten from a non-Cuban, and wonderful, ever-changing flavors as this 7 1/2-inch stick burned. A fantastic, rustic, shark-skin-textured wrapper and flawless construction. Ah, that's better. Cool
I have had this cigar as well and agree it is very tasty and leaps and bounds better than the recent release IMO. But, for me its not box worthy. I just cant seem to get what I truly want out of this size vitola, it just doesnt feel right in my hand I guess....I dont know, Ill keep trying them Im sure.

Slated for this afternoon, as I have tomorrow off, BHK 54, love this cigar and have been craving once since the last one I had.

Wish you guys lived closer, love to share one with you!!
