Was this one of the ones you just got in? If so, that Cab has been awesome.

Couldn't be any other. Wink I should add that when I've had other top-quality cigars, when you finished one, you knew you were done. This one, however, was so refreshing and even mouthwatering, I felt like I could have smoked another, easily.

Do you know which specific location this is? I believe there are 5 or 6 CDH outlets in Havana. This info would save me considerable time as I am headed down this week.

TIA

Actually, no.

But look at this way. Out of the entire island, I've gotten your search down to 5 or 6 outlets. Wink

I sincerely wish I could be of more help WD

I prefer lighting from cedar strips (count it as a match, I guess) whenever I'm indoors, but Colorado's windiness demands a butane torch outside, which is at least 90% of the time for me.

Stick, please play by the rules...you only get one vote!

I do not give a darn what hippie state you live in. Big Grin

If you trust your mule, I would also ask them to pick up some custom rolls. The shops that I mentioned above all have in house cigar rollers. reinaldo is at conde, La China at Partagas and yolanda at hotel national.

good luck.

Thanks Mav. I am the mule so I will make the rounds. Am staying in Varadero but will travel to Havana for a day trip to see the city and the CDH's!

No worries KSC02. I look forward to the hunt. I see it as a no lose scenario. Wink

i would stop by the 63rd lcdh as well in varadero. this is the largest lcdh of the three in varadero. there is also one on 39th street and at the mall.

when at the 63rd lcdh, ask for ava. she will hook you up. get a custom roll from alphonso there as well. you'll be happy you did.

have a great time.

Wooden matches or torch flame lighter?

I usually use matches (preferably the extra long cigar matches), letting the sulfur to burn off and then begin lighting. I've used the cedar strips several times, but for all the fuss I detect no difference.

The torch only when forced to. Too hot, IMO, and not worth all the fussiness (constantly refilling).

Just strike - burn - light. Keep it simple. Wink
If I remember correctly on the CA website I believe Gordon Mott lit a cigar with 3 matches without really puffing too much. I sort of do the same with my soft flame or wooden match. I will also use a torch for light touch ups, took awhile to know exactly what distance and angle was appropriate though. Initially, I did scorch the wrapper.

A torch flame is invaluable outside, especially on the links as W+A eluded too.
Well I am looking forward to this thursday and friday. Thursday night is a private event for about 30 people at my local shop, there will be the likes of Pete Johnson, Steve Saka, Im not sure if the Fuente's and Pepin will be there as well. We will be given a couple pre-release cigars to try and evaluate, pretty excited about it.

Friday is our 90th anniversary dinner, about 90 or so people, the above vendors and a couple more will be attending. We are apparently getting about 15 limited or pre-release sticks along with a 5 course dinner which includes a 60 day dry aged t-bone.

Needless to say, I may be breaking my rule of having wine with cigars. I just dont think I can neglect to bring a few bottles of bordeaux for my table.

I use a torch, unless I forget to bring it. Also like to toast the foot a skosh before applying flame.

Speaking of skosh...where is that damsel these days?

Cohiba behike 52, cohiba siglo VI and a cohiba siglo II. All is good.

Wow, my pallet would be all done. I rarely have more than 2 "good" cigars in a day. Didnt you have a Robusto earlier too? After 2 cigars for me you could give me a Kuba Kuba without a band and I wouldnt be able to tell you if its good or not.

By the way, just in case some of you didnt know this. Chocolate is a terrific pallet cleanser in a pinch. But, it doesnt help me much for the #3 cigar.

I chatted with her just a little while back. She's doing very well last I heard. Busy on the shooting circuit, (skeet) winning cash and prizes. Apparently she's an ace with a Beretta. Eek Funny, as I posted about a good round at sporting clays a few years back and she chimed in or e-mailed me about it. I kidded her that she wasn't a "real" Texan if she didn't have a gun. The rest.........is history.

I agree with this. A good cigar for sure. I had a BHK 52 yesterday night and thought it was a cohiba robusto on steroids. You can definitely taste the medio tempo leaf.

I wouldn't pay online or LCDH prices for these. Only worth it if you can get someone to pick them up for you in Cuba.

Any idea what the box code was?

I have had several 52's from the March and June 2010 box and I have to say it was one of the better sticks I have had in a long time. Its already developed "some" complexity and the creaminess of the smoke is very heavy and unique. This will only get better IMO. I also feel the 54 will be the better of the 2 sticks in the long run. The 56 needs loads of time.

Sorry CSM it dissapointed you, glad you tried one before buying a box.

I think it was one of the Feb 2010 Box codes. Was very surprised at the lack of complexity. During the second third, some chocolate and cedar notes starte to emerge, but I found the stick mostly woody and showed mostl espresso notes. Definitely not worth the $60 it costs up here. Decided to pick up a box of the Monte Grand Edmundo EL 2010s instead of the BHKs.
