Hopefully some other folks chime in for you.

Sorry for the thread drift - finally escaping to the suburbs? Wink

Nope, you guys aren't that lucky. Wink Just finding our own house instead of living in a condo.

I will be in Chicago 8/9 through 8/12 and would appreciate any helpful suggestions. I tried to get reservations at Izard's Girl and a Goat... no luck. We have a reservation at duck duck goat. That's all so far...

I would recommend Smyth. Smyth opened in 2016 and was a James Beard award semifinalist for best new restaurant. Smyth is the formal restaurant while downstairs is The Loyalist which is a casual food/cocktail bar. Both are come as you are.

We were there in April and did the 12 course meal (although they have a 5 and 8 course offering as well). Tickets need to be purchased in advance. Head chef John Shields was the sous chef at Charlie Trotters and Alinea. The stand out course for me was the salted black licorice of egg yolk, whipped frozen yogurt, toasted farro koji & black raspberry jam. The wine list was very nice and reasonable priced (about 2x retail). Very creative. Recommended.
