I’m working through my father’s cellar. A few wines have stumped, this is one. They didn’t release a 1925. Any thoughts?

i didnt realize that Appellation haut-medoc controlee was established so early.
Looks like somebody used an IBM Selectric to type the vintage on that label.

How old must one be to know what that device is?

My guess is roughly 60+.
I'm pretty sure Robert comes by every X weeks or months and releases all newbies in one shot. Thus the full swing.

According to Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haut-M%C3%A9doc_AOC, it looks like the AOC was established November 14, 1936.

there was a case about 6? years ago where a major house was auctioning off what is in essence credenza wines from rioja (which retail for 3-6$) that were "30" years old when they clearly weren't. Their supply turned out to be a defunct restaurant that just so happened to have all of these bottles laying around the cellar and conveniently a printing press next to it.

Mmm…credenza wines…love those stained wood cabinets.
