Chartogne-Taillet Cuvée Sainte-Anne Merfy NV Champagne: golden straw color. Great mouse that builds in the glass with every pour. Straw hued in color. The nose was custardy with baked bread and paw-paw fruit, a custardy fruit that is the only northern relative of a tropical fruit, that's not to say there was much more than a hint of tropical flavors in this one. The mouthfeel was silky and full, the finish was a seamless fade that pleased the palate. 92

A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims. I had never heard of the area Merfy, but it is just East of the city Reims. The vineyard covers 12 hectares and the soil is chalk with some sandstone.

This wine is a Recoltant Maker as is evident by the tiny RM on the bottom front of the label, that we all know from the VinoMe New Years post "refers to a Champagne maker that grows their own grapes. they are allowed to buy up to 5% of their production..."

N.V. Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Cuvée St. Anne Brut - France, Champagne (10/7/2009)

Opened by some friends in Michigan. This is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and had a disgorgement date of July 2006. A focused champagne with notes of bread dough, lemon/lime and strawberry on the finish. Good bead. 90-91 points.
