I don't remember the EU rules but in the US varietal and vintage have separate rules. Varietal has to be 75% of the grape on the label. Vintage has to be 95% of the vintage on the label. One does not effect the other, which seems intuitive, keeping it in barrel an extra years does not change the grape. All rather mute though, there's little wine made today that's not vintage above the bottom shelf at the super market.
