Bonneau du Martray is widely regarded Burgundy producer making only 2 wines, both from Grand Cru vineyards. They own 11ha on the Hill of Corton, including 9.5ha parcel of Chardonnay being the largest single holding in the GC. The rest is planted for PN. Among the 1st adopters of biodynamic viticulture. Only 25K btls in the market per year.
 
Historic estate which had been family owned for 200 years was sold in 2017 to American billionaire Stan Kroenke. He made his fortune on sports & entertainment: owns English Arsenal, NBA Denver Nuggets.
 
He’s also single owner of legendary Screaming Eagle.
Domaine started own bottling in 1970. But its glory came after Jean-Charles le Bault took over from his father in 1994.
Stunning Corton-Charlemagne vertical 2016-1994 tasting together with Domaine manager Thibault Jacquet.
Winemaking: fully destemmed, all plots vinified separately, gravitation cellar, 12mo aging in 30% new oak followed by 6mo in steel tanks to regain freshness after micro oxidation. Avoid batonnage. Use oak as the spice. Bottle w/ natural corks only.
 
My tasting notes with (πŸ…rating N/100):
2016 (πŸ…94) Herbs, flowers, honeysuckle, ripeness is there. Mineral, tense, precise, sharp acidity. Huge potential. Stock up! More reserved vs generous, ripe & buttery 2015 (93+) w/ oak vanilla spice.
2009 (πŸ…95+) Lemon, pharma herbs, peppermint. Still a baby. Bitterness on palate. Classic vintage. Pure. Clean. Bright, luminous, liquid sunshine.
2005 (πŸ…94) Riper, flinty. Warm vintage. Big in quality. Reached its peak, will slowly decline. Drink now, like 2006 Champagne.

1999 (πŸ…96) Light speaks in this Corton showing some development, creamy texture & richness.
1998 (πŸ…94) Very fresh, quincy, orchard fruits.
Only 2 wines coming not directly from the cellar:
1997 (πŸ…94+) Fresh, floral. Honey on the palate. Interesting guy.
1994 (πŸ…92) Bit odd & reduced. Seems high on sulphur.
 
Reds come from 3 plots in Western part of the hill (ex-Charlemagne area) w/ clay red soils.
2016 (πŸ…92) Game, duck, spices, black pepper. Reductive profile. Mineral.
1996 (πŸ…94) Ripe red fruits, jammy strawberries. Smoke meat, tart, undergrowth. Light weight. Finesse.
