Picking up my Single Vineyard Reserves today I, had a chance to taste some stuff in barrel. The '04s are so young it was hard to tell much, but both the Herb Lamb and the ToKalon were very good. Much better was the Crane (superblack espresso bean and chocolate). I also tasted the '02 KL from a half bottle and it is very good. Actually, it is a bit reminiscent of '01 Neal, but it is so young, it is hard to tell. I'll deffinitely be buying, however.

CW,

Absolutely. To be fair, I deffinitely prefer the '01 KL right now to the '02, but given the difference of conditions I wouldn't be surprised if I wind up liking the '02 every bit as much, or even a tiny bit more. I don't have the experience to really rate wines poured into bottle just one month ago, so I will say this will fall somewhere in the 92-94 point range for me.

While it has obvious major flaws (only in barrel for 2 weeks) the highlight of the tasting was the '04 Crane. Ric Henry told me that he believes, if KL were to submit to a tasting from WS or Parker, the '03 Crane (their first Vineyard Designate Crane) would be a 100 point wine. It is a rediculous claim on the one hand. On the other hand, after tasting the '04 next to the '04 Herb Lamb and ToKalon, I have to say I'm inclined to believe it -- it has been in barrel two weeks and it is already in the 91+ range.
