2012 Behrens Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, The Rescue.  We had some people over for dinner.  Someone had given this to me a few years back, and it has been resting comfortably in the wine fridge.

This was a truly outstanding Napa Cab.  Full bodied, balanced, medium tannins, and just full of wonderful flavor.

IMG_5662Tonight with black truffle omelette,  2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Domaine Saint Préfert Réserve Auguste Favier. Stunning. Remarkable nose. Loaded with rich fruit, led by plum and berries, lots of pipe tobacco and spices. Remarkable plush texture. Remarkable finish. Remarkable wine.

I have a soft spot for this producer having visited the Domaine and winemaker. She makes a great wine, Mrs Fernando. Glad to hear as I have one last bottle of this vintage.

Glad to hear. Becoming more unaffordable every vintage

A lot of Champagne is going in that direction. The first bottle of Selosse I ever bought was like $50. (What would now be considered the equivalent of the V.O.).  I remember 1990 Salon going for $150. These were both only 19 or 20 years ago.  Current pricing is insane. Cedric Bouchard prices also got strapped to a rocket.

Well I guess they are following supply and demand. As new markets open up for Champagne, prices soar.

Out of curiosity, what was the price of the Comtes 2012? I got mine for 250$ cad or 185 usd at current exchange rates.

I paid $210 USD (from a store now only charging $200).  You got a good deal. Reputable stores in the US seem to be selling in-stock bottles for $195 (on sale) to $260.
