I love big Aussie Reds, but this was too one-dimensional, and the alcohol was prominently there in every sip. I had decanted for three hours...

But it's only 16%?

Wink

I think 16% is not too high for cough medicine really. Razz

not a bad night Danny...I love the Botella

for me tonight with friends..

04 D'arnberg Derelict Grenache- smells like chambord. Big wine but could use some additional air or time in the cellar. very nice wine for the price.

05 Montes Alpha Syrah- very smoky- decent QPR but I wont be buying again...

00 Etude Napa Cab- Man I love Etuude cabs- this is absolutley singing. Big wine, but very smooth. I'd give it a 93-94 easy. Ready to drink now but will hold up for several years

Whats Next? 2003 Doisy Daenes is breathing but we need something in between..we'll see...

How were the '02's showing?
w+a:

I liked the Prieur Beaune Graves a touch better than the Champs-Pimont, but overall the 2002 are quite closed at this moment and will need much more time in the cellar to fully express themselves.

I think overall, there was consensus that the wines that showed the best that night were the '95 Gros Vosne-Romanee, '03 Buxy Mercurey, 2004 Littorai, 2004 St. Innocent, and 2003 Coste-Caumartin Pommard.

What an exotic line up. Where ever in the world Board-O might be he is probably feeling a strange tingling sensation right now.

Skoshy alone makes for an exotic line up. Eek Cool
Tonight, an 03 Pride cab with a new york steak in sage butter. Great pairing. Prides are such big wines...the oak was a tad (I am splitting hairs) overwhelming but a great, big Cali cab in a tough vintage. Not quite up to snuff with the 00 Etude last night but very enjoyable none the less.
Tonight at dinner with friends

1993 Taittinger Brut Blnc de Blancs. Very nice.

2004 Shafer Chardonnay Carneros Red Shoulder Ranch. Very nice, thick and buttery.

1997 Shafer Cab Sauvignon. Outstanding!!

1997 Peter Micahel Cab Sauvignon. Not even close to the Shafer but not bad.

mimik,

No umbrage intended, but seems like an odd two wines to drink together.

None taken but I should have specified they were drunk on two different nights. Smile
