Wow that's a hard question to answer. So many variables it's hard to put a number on the board. I will say that I've bought and resold a lot of wine over the years and some I wish I could have back, but some I couldn't care less. In the grand scheme of life, it's just wine. Buy some, drink some, share some, give some away and sell some, life goes on!

this happens to be a forum about wine =)

regardless, I'm curious as to the numbers folks would put up.

+1. I have swapped bottles with friends where the initial cost (on either side of the trade) might have been lower than the agreed-upon bottle value. Usually WineSearcher low is used for determining a basis. In these situations, one party might "profit" in the trade, but I just don't think of it in these terms.

Hard to say because there are so many variables. I have never actually sold a bottle and I have some in my cellar that could be sold for big profits. Something around the $10K range for a bottle would at least peak my curiosity. Lets say I had a bottle of DRC RC that I got for a song and was now selling for $15K. Would I rather have 1 bottle of DRC RC for $15K or a couple bottles each of Coche, Roulot, Rousseau, etc. I would take the latter all day because I think they are on the same level and sometimes better than DRC for me.

I made the SQN list a couple of years ago. Don't care for the wines so I passed. I'm sure I could have flipped for some profit each release but that just doesn't appeal to me.
