The artist painted them on the street to spread art to the masses, not to be ripped out of the wall and sold to highest paying bidder at auction. Sure, if it is your property, I guess you can do whatever you like with it, regardless of whether or not it violates the spirit of the piece. The success of auctions like these proliferates this type of behaviour, not only from property owners, but anyone looking to make a quick buck. For example, there is a guy right now in NYC going around ripping down Invaders and selling them on Craigslist.

Why exactly would someone see this as a positive, short of having a large Banksy or other high profile artist's work on the side of a building they own?

I'll admit it--I had to look it up. Apparently California already had something like this since 1976. It was called the "California Resale Royalty Act." It was struck down in 2012 for complex legal reasons. Now it appears it my become federal law.

Until this one piece of art, America was not seen as a serious art nation, yet this one piece started the tilt towards America becoming the art capital of the world that it is today.

Well, I never thought Francois would attract such attention. Smile

I got back to Dallas last night, but had my wife send a couple of very poor iPhone pictures I can forward.

The piece is a 5'x5' painting. We are going with very minimalist art with few exceptions in our Santa Fe house, thus this work. I'm always hesitant to forward pictures as they never truly show well at all, but you can at least get a feel for the work.

VinT, I have your email, but do not think I have Rob's or mangiare's. Can you forward to them? If not, we can exchange information. Let me know.

My dorm room in 1st year university was Marshall McLuhan's old office.

Double doors, 18 foot ceilings, huge bay window and my roommate moved out after a month.

I always laugh when I think back, being the catholic college in the university we had little old church going ladies as cleaners. I moved the two beds together after my room mate moved out and every time they went in my room they moved them back apart. I was heavily scolded once when I walked in and compained while they were doing it until I told them I was the only one living in the room and wasn't in a "relationship" with my same-sex roommate... After that they were very nice!
