2006 Bibi Graetz Testamatta - finishing up second bottle of two opened for a blind tasting.   This is probably one of the best wines made by Mr. Graetz.  They are quite variable vintage-to-vintage, but this one exhibits the best characteristics of Sangiovese.  Lots of spicy dark fruit, a distinct touch of menthol, and licorice that has faded over time.  Powerful with nice structure.  The best Testamatta I have tasted.

We've been enjoying some of our older bottles from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia lately.  Tonight, with roast turkey and all the trimmings:

  • 2016 Le Vieux Pin Ava.  A perennial favourite.  White Rhone blend (Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne).
  • 2011 Meyer Family Vineyards McLean Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir.

Both showed very well.  Two of Canada's top wineries IMO.
