I put quotation marks around the words that seemed to have to be taken with a grain of salt at last year's show. Lots of horrible food, with one or two exceptions. Numerous bottles of wine that I would not consider either drinking or cooking with. Some nicer samples available, but were not cheap. I would like to go to one or two of the tutored tastings, was nice to do tasting of the first growths last year, not sure if the prices are reasonable though ($130 pp for the 03 first growths...I think it was 1 oz of haut brion, mouton, lafite, margaux last year, and 2 oz of latour...and then more of whatever open bottles that we could get our hands on at the end of the tasting...I think I ended up having 5 or 6 oz of latour, was pretty tasty). 2004 first growth tasting is also $130, seems odd to have it at the same price as 2003...will be surprising to see if they charge $130 for 2005 tasting next year (doubtful). A few other tutored tastings look like they have some potential for a noob such as myself, but not sure if this is the best format for tasting (vs. other organizations/clubs). Anyone going?
