We're planning a brief trip to Toronto with two other couples to catch the Indy race in July. We typically find and rent a house for these trips rather than do the hotel thing, and I'm curious to hear which parts of town those of you "in the know" would recommend...

VB,I will send you the email of my twin brother. ( DoktaP)

He will be a great source of information, and a stellar and gracious human being. Wink
I don't live in Toronto but know it pretty well. I would suggest you check out Cabbagetown and the Annex, also the area around Yonge and Bloor - unless you are stinkin' rich, in which case take a look at Forest Hill.

As usual you are amazing my friend, as is DoktaP I'm finding. The folks on these boards continue to amaze. Thanks to you both!

With this lot, I'm sure you have all the info you need already! that said here are a couple of my own reco's:

Go to www.realtor.ca and use the map to zoom into Toronto. You arn't buying a house, but it is a great map to see the names of neighborhoods and what is where.

The annex has a higher number of short term rentals than most other places as it is close to UofT. I would say this is probably the best spot for you. Close to Yorkville & the mink mile of Bloor St. (shopping and restaurants). As well it has great ingress and egress (easy to get to and find).

Nest best in my mind would be the area around Trinity Bellwoods park. Great shopping and restaurants. More west and closer to the racing.
If you are looking at spending a bit more (lot more) Yorkville & Summerhill are both fantastic. Tony parts of town but still very urban.

Rosedale and Forest Hill have the biggest houses and will be the most expensive areas close to downtown. You have to drive or walk 10 minutes to get to anything though.

Cabbagetwon is quaint but surronded by filth.

VB, not sure what your plans are for the week, but if you get a free night, I'm sure we could assemble some or all of the crew for an offline if you're free/interested.

That would be sweet (as long as you were willing to put up with a group of crazy Texans), however we're traveling with several other couples so the schedule will be somewhat outside of my control.

If I can swing something I'll post it here...
Never met a Texan I didn't like instantly, so I'm sure we'd get along well Big Grin.

Just make sure you bring your wines with you as the prices in Ontario will make you shudder.
The annex is a great place, I manage the top real estate brokerage in the annex, nice central location close to everywhere you would likely want to be!
Thanks a million for the offer - we actually found a house we're renting in Little Italy.

As soon as I have a feel for the schedule I'll see if we can pull off some time because I'd love to meet some of the neighbors to the north!
You will LOVE Little Italy. There's an oft-repeated stat that Toronto possesses the greatest population of Italians outside Italy. (Don't know if it's actually true, but the Italian flavor in many parts of the city is unmistakeable). An expresso on the patio at Cafe Diplomatico is a must. And a gelato from one of the many shops on College. And a martini at Bar Italia!

Depending on what part of Little Italy the house is in, you will probably be a gorgeous 30-40 minute walk to the race venue.

The local Toronto winos would love to wrap an offline around your visit, complete with crazy Texans in tow. We'll be watching this space for developments on that front...

The crazy Texans will not make this trip, but you will enjoy Vino Bevo anyway. Wink

Also, I would not bring up the UT football subject. They have sucked BIG TIME the last couple of year! LOL

The good-looking, wildly popular Texans will be there... Razz

That ain't right!
Plans are still somewhat in flux, but so far Thursday, July 5 is looking like it may work for an offline. Once I have a better feel for things I'll post something on the Offline threads.
