It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was time for wine. OK, enough Dickens there but seeing as we were wine tasting in England, seems apropos.
Ridgeview Estate (Sussex, England): A well established English estate that only produces sparkling wines and most appear to be vintage wines. All the wines we tried were good and their Blanc de Blance is particularly good. This wine is young but has a sharp strong acidic core. A wine to age, me thinks. A beautiful property with their Chardonnay vineyard view-able from their tasting rooms. No food or knick-knacks here. If driving up from the south as we did and you're visiting from North America, be prepared for a slow white knuckle drive through the village of Ditchling. No way could I get my F150 through there!
Bolney Wine Estate (East Sussex, England): Another nice visit. They have a very nice cafe with good views and excellent food. They make quite a few wines, both sparkling and still. Perhaps a few too many. Their single vineyard Pinot was good. Doesn't come off as a wine to age but this is quality Pinot to be sure.
