1995 Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione

Long one of favorite wines of Italy or anywhere else for that matter. This wine did not let me down Smile

A dark and opaque color with a ripe and rich nose. Some nice roasted herbs hinding behind a full dose of black currant also on the nose.
On the palate this wine has a full and rich feeling without being heavy or creamy. Smooth! I got so many different taste out of this wine over a two hour window. Ripe sweet fruit, herbs (dried) light cedar, toast, hint of tar, earthy mid-palate with mouth watering acidity.

Just a great world class wine IMHO. No need to rush. I feel it is only getting better. Five more years in the cellar might reward even more.

BEAUTIFUL WINE Big Grin

Thanks for a tip! Please e-mail me a link or phone # for these guys at the address above if it's not too much trouble. I googled them, but am not having any luck finding the store.

I'm seeing some merchants who are offering this at almost 2x release price, Eek so was hoping to swap for a more reasonable cost per bottle.

At those prices, I'll just ask you to let me know when you Texans get together next, and I'll pack up my last 1993 or 1997, jump on a plane, and bring them to your mini vertical!! Smile

1995 Podere Poggio Scalette Il Carbonaione Toscana IGT (Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Toscana IGT)

Initial explosive nose of raspberries filled the room on decanting. Medium ruby with clear rim and a little bricking. Medium/full body. Red fruit with wood, plum and spices. Searing acidity puts this a little out of balance. Screams for food. 30 second finish. 90 points.

Remind me the next time you're in town. I've got it going back to the beginning. Love to crack one or two with you and the gang.

No kidding. Still have a couple left. I'll save one for you, wiml and I to share one day. I'm pretty sure this thread is where we all met! Cool

Just sent an email about a '95 magnum. If I get it, I will fly to D.C. and drink it with you this year!

You have my word. Cool
