I don’t often buy California Syrah, but damn this is a delicious youngster. The initial nose on opening was bright, tart cherries and berries along with an aroma of concrete tank fermentation. This has really opened up nicely in in hour or so. I’m smelling bacon fat, campfire, black fruits, crushed berries, violets, espresso, and rocks/minerals. Wonderfully complex. Mouthfeel is closer to medium than full-bodied. The flavors I get are crushed berries, black licorice, baking spice and a hint of smoked meat. Lively acid, and it went well with spicy lamb vindaloo and other Indian food we ordered for takeout. There should be room for the components to integrate, but this is really f***ing delicious now with some air. Great value at under $30.
