2011 Domaine de Vigneau-Chevreau Vouvray Cuvée Silex - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (12/17/2012)
-- popped and poured --
-- tasted non-blind over 4 hours --
NOSE: moderate+ expressiveness; strong mineral note – like scraped river rocks; hint of green jalapeno; not as rich/fruity as the ’10 vintage of the same; strong mineral note persists.
BODY: cork soaked about 20% of the way up; pale yellow color of light depth; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: light concentration of fruit flavors; moderate+ mineral note; adequate acidity, but lacking the enamel-stripping acid that made the ’10 so electrifying; slightly to moderately green; lightly tropical; solid middle-of-the-road wine: not bad, but nothing extraordinary or excellent, either; 13% alc. not noticeable; strong mineral note 3 hours in; underripe green grapes; finish is medium-short in length, and is of medium-light to medium intensity; drink over the near term.
B: 50, 5, 11, 14, 7 = (87 pts.)
