Well, the Rangers squeaked by the Orioles last night (19-6), but the O's still won the series 2-1.
The O's have now given up 73 runs total in their first 9 games. Yet, the O's are 6-3.
(Historical note: In the 1960 World Series, which the Pirates won 4-3 over the Yankees, the Pirates were outscored by a wide margin. The Yankees three wins were by these scores: 12-0, 16-3, and 10-0. The Pirates won their games 6-4, 3-2, 5-2 and then in the final game, (obviously with the series tied 3-3), the Yankees were ahead 7-4 going to the bottom of the 8th at Pittsburgh. The Pirates scored 5, to take the lead 9-7. But, the Yankees tied it up in the top of the 9th. Then, in the bottom of the 9th, Bill Mazeroski, a second baseman, led off with a home run, so the Pirates won 10-9, and won the series. They were outscored 55-27 and out hit 91-60.
"I don't know what the pitch was (to Bill Mazeroski in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series). All I know is it was the wrong one." - New York Yankees' Pitcher Ralph Terry)
8-1 with a road sweep of the Braves. Now on to Washington!
Lets see...One pitcher suspended, one on the DL because he threw out his arm in the stupid WBC, two starting short stops out with injuries and Ortiz can't hit his way out of a paper bag. I know it's early but this better shape up fast or it'll be a really tall climb back to the top of the AL East.
Didn't the Yankee's learn anything the other day. Swisher is the guy they should have brought in to try and nail this one down. The rest of their pen is junk.
Father/son only trip to LA this weekend to watch the Dodgers/Rockies. REALLY looking forward to this, enough to even put up with Legoland on Sunday too.
Should be a great time if we can get out of Denver baby with a potentially monster winter storm bearing down on us. United actually start offering free schedule changes about noon today. But I am holding out hope for now since our flight is not until early Saturday morning.
Have to see what develops since the first wave of the storm is supposed to hit around midnight tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Sacred Cow,
You should probably leave early if possible!
Have a great time! I'm not shovelling!

Is there anybody out there willing to take on even a small part of Zito's contract?!?!!?

I've been reluctant to accept company tickets to the twinkies- no desire yet. Displaced Gator fan- Go Gators!quote:Originally posted by mpls wine guy:

How about them Jays?

sorry Dom, Zito's performance in April is like shooting fish in a barrel, there just arent more sure things in this world

He certainly got no help from his defense or from Burriss' baserunning....
true, but he also walked 4, hit 2 batters & loaded the bases in the 6th, with no outs, all by himself
just look at the split stats for the last 5 years and you'll see what im talking about

Yes, I saw the sixth, but he had actually pitched decently up to that point.
I know all about the stats unfortunately. They even showed it on the telecast last night - although they just used his years in a Giants uni....

true he did get in a groove after the 2nd... but, you can't stop the inevitable... it wasn't a matter of if it was going to happen, but when!
Very cool Sacred Cow. There is something about baseball and fathers and sons more than any other sport. Hope you see some good games. I have been to a lot of stadiums and Dodgers stadium is still my favorite. Just love the set up and the views (and yes, I’m completely biased).
Just wish there were less Raider fans at the games these days…….

Thanks Glenn, it should be fun provided the weather does not deteriorate further. Flight #1 already canceled, flight #2 will get us to the game late. Glad I did not promise my son a picture with Manny on picture day.

When things are going well..I guess I should just enjoy. 2 straight extra innings wins that got tied up with HR's in the top of the 9th.
10-1, best start in team history.

I'm counting a whole lot of empty $2500.00 seats behing home plate as the Yanks get clobbered again by the tribe. Looks like they better get Swisher up in the pen again to mop this one up.

Yanks should figure out you can win with safeties when your opponent is scoring touchdowns

A loss is a loss whether it's 30-0 or 3-2. Boston fans should not have any high expectations this year and count on being in the basement the rest of the year.

I agree with that too!! Outside of winning the lottery...a day where both the Yanks and Red Sox lose is a great day. Too bad today wasn't a great day

Brilliant analysis! Try telling that to Wang. I'm guessing his three blowout losses mean a bit more to him than a 3-2 loss.
On top of that the Sox are no longer in last genius but hey, if you don't have anything based in fact go ahead and make it up if it makes you feel better about watching you 210 million dollar team get crushed every other night in that 1.3 billion dollar little league sized park where routine fly balls become home runs. Too bad for them the Yanks can't even hit some routine fly balls.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! There's 22 laughs, one for each run the Yanks pathetic pitching staff gave up today. We'll see who's in the basement come September.

Add a few more Ha Ha and you get to the number of World Series titles the Yankees have won. How many does your pathetic team have?

Boston has 7 championships in 108 years.
Jays have 2 in 32 years. Pretty much the same years to championship ratio...but at 1/10 the price.

Mezzo, either your Jays can really hit or my Twins pitching has taken a step back. It was hard watching your team kick the crap out of mine.
I only posted on this thread because I enjoy reading posts by the Hatfields and the McCoys (Yankees and Boston fans). Personally, I'm not a big baseball fan, but I do watch the game from time to time.
Mpls wine guy, I think the Jays' bats are getting better. Pitching has been quite good the last couple of years, but now they're finally scoring some runs too. Sorry about the 31-13 runs during our recent 4 game series with the Twins.

Tigers are actually looking competitive so far. That's more than I expected. Pitching early on looks better than I had hoped.
Blue Jays looked good. Too bad the Tigers drew them to open the season.

Matt Kemp hits an inside pitch the other way for a grand slam. You cannot teach power like that. 8 game winning streak!

You're living in the past my friend. The Sox have 2 this century, the Yanks have the golden goose egg. Your team is a bunch of has beens and never will be's. My team is a bunch of champions!
How has Big Pappi performed since Manny left????quote:Originally posted by Icewino:

Didn't they win in 2000?
-Papi has been the same as he was last year when Manny was here. Horrible unfortunately. I've already laid out my theory on him before but besides him being 33 and out of shape if his name wasn't on the list of 103 I'd be surprised.
-Technically 2000 was the last year of last Century.
Clinging to the past won't make them any better in the present. Nicklaus won more majors than Tiger but who would you take as your partner in a tournament today? It was the New York papers that called them the Worthless Stinkees, not me.

I'm willing to bet one of my pricier wines that the Yankees will win the World Series before the Red Sox do.
I think most people would consider 2000 to be the start of the 21st Century.

Three gems by Sanchez, Lincecum, and Johnson. Looks like the Panda is starting to come around....
