This is the kind of winery you just want to hug and squeeze and tell them you love them, then take to breakfast in the morning.

After their phenomenal 2007 vintage (98pts for the Wight and 95pts for the Cab), they kept there prices steady for 2008. 2-packs for the 2008 (one of each wine) are just $98 per pair. Granted, it's a futures offer that ships in Oct 2011, but still a fantastic deal, and they didn't change a single thing after their 2007 scores.

Gotta love 'em...

I just got on their list last year after reading about it here on the boards. I have yet to taste one but look forward to trying some. I don't usually buy much of anything I haven't tried but based on the outpouring of high regards here on the site I decided there was little risk in purchasing. I'm sure the 2008s will be exceptional as well.

Call them and ask nicely. I'd wager they send you some wine. These guys are just so awesome. If you call them, you'll probably be talking to Dave Wight. If they send you some wine, you can shoot me an email and tell me how to keep from cupping my left hand at the top of my backswing.

Check out the daughter's wine - Haley Wight at Hayfork.

i'd call them and you'd be surprised. i got on about 6 months before the 07 was released and got an offer right away. after their 07 scores though, i'm sure there's a bit of a wait.

As there was after the '04 vintage and the Screagle comparison. After some thought I passed on the '07 offer, and I repeated the process this year. Truly a terrific family and I wish them every success. I know that my passing on the offer will not prevent them from selling through their stock.

Next year I'll repeat the thought process, if they offer me some next year. But I still have 3 cases of their wine, so...
I can't even being to tell you how many times I tried to talk Dave into increasing their prices, increasing production, or cut back on wholesale distribution to curb/satisfy growing mailing list demand.

I know he didn't got for the first two option, but may have cut back a bit on wholesale allocation for their 2007 vintage to get more wine to mailing list customer.

Great people, don't need the money, just like to have a good product that moves well without much worries.

Thanks for the advice. Who said that is a bad thing, look at pictures of Couples and LoveIII, both very "cupped". Ever play at the Standard Club in Atl.?

Powell - based on our conversation or one of the many when you were here in dallas - I did buy my allocation and set up a tasting. Looking forward to both.

i had it at the winery. popped and poured and they used pretty crappy stems.

all i got from it was "closed closed closed" so i can't make a decision. i have a couple other buddies that tried it though (people whose palates i tend to align with) and they really enjoyed it. they had time to decant it and use proper stems.

Anyone try the Hayfork juice? I have not and would like to see how the same fruit works in slightly different hands.

you mean you got your 07's and ordered your 08's, right?

don't get too crazed about the visit. the people are super nice, but it's about as low key a visit as exists. you basically pull up to a barn, there's a picnic table, and they open a bottle for you, give you a glass, some cheese and crackers, and you're done.

it's not to say it sucks or anything, the lady who gave use our tasting was really sweet, it's just a very very simple tasting. they only make 2 wines and the facility is elsewhere.

You are correct, sorry about that..

I enjoy the low key aspect of it, a nice down home contrast to some of the other disney-esque visits, although they have there place as well.

cheers!
