Has anyone expressed/published any opinions/outlook on the 2007 Barolos yet? I have an opportunity to obtain the 07 Rocche, Lazzarito and Brunate from Vietti, and am wondering whether to go for them or not.

I saw the quote from Luca Vietti in the early vintage report posted by WS online on Dec 19. It indicates that they were spared the hail damage which affected some vineyards in the region. But I still find myself leary of the unusual weather that occurred in 2007. And given the hefty price increase in 2006, I wonder if I am better sticking to back vintages.

Yes, Antonio's ratings are supposed to be online with the rest of the new WA issue as of 6pm EST.

Can you let me know the scores and overall gist of Galloni's comments? (I don't subscribe to WA.)
Galloni previewed the vintage last year in one of his articles. It sounds like a vintage I will be trying to accumulate. If you prefer more structured vintages you may be leery. If, for example, you are passing on 2007 CDP's then you may be passing on these as well.

Galloni believes the 2007's will surpass the 2006's in quality and calls them extraordinary. They will be appealing on release due to low acidities and sheer density of fruit. One producer stated 2007 is a vintage the Americans will love. Sounds good to me.

Just read the report. Buy them fast. The Rocche is the wine of the vintage and the Brunate is just a hair below. The Lazzarito is also classic but would be the third choice with a drinking window of 2022-2042.

Happy to share any if you don't want full case lots! Good luck!

At what age do you want to hang up your skates? My dad drank - and enjoyed - wine until he was somewhere between 85 and 88 (he didn't just give it up all at once, he just gradually decreased the amounts he would take).
