I knew I should wait, but I got home from work the day after Thanksgiving and my wife, who had the day off, had made some wonderful smelling lamb. So I thought, "What the hey?" and decanted this for the hour before dinner.
What amazed me was the balance in this for such a young wine. On the nose, pepper and smoke with a some earthiness. As it opened up in my glass, cola started to come out too. Enough tannin to cellar a few years, but well integrated already and no rough edges. Dark plum and black berries with a spicy note to match the pepper in the nose. The second glass had a hint of chocolate too. It paired with the braised lamb shanks (and left over mashers!) perfectly. I am happy I bought a half case of this, five left to cellar. 90-1 points.
