2005 Varner Foxglove Chardonnay – California, Central Coast, Edna Valley (1/4/08)
I believe that Foxglove is actually a second label for Varner. Pale yellow. Citrus/lemon on the nose. Lemon and peach flavors on the palate with the slightest hint of oak. Flinty minerality with a crisp and refreshing acidity. The finish was initially a little awkward but improved substantially with air time. Almost like a "poor man's" Chablis. A very nice, enjoyable and unadulterated California Chardonnay. A great value. If I can find it again, I'll buy more.
