  • 2005 Denner Grenache - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (9/1/2009)
    – popped and poured –
    – tasted non-blind over 4 hours –
    – 82% Grenache, 9% Syrah, 9% Cinsault –

NOSE: rich red fruits; smoke; oak; bit alcoholic; fruits darken with air, and the smoke note becomes a bit more sweet so that it comes across as wet coffee grounds.

BODY: fine particulate matter; purple tinged ruby color of medium depth; medium-full bodied.

TASTE: a bit tart with a glycerin mouthfeel; alcohol taste present, but gets better in this regard with air exposure; very rich and round; coffee/oak; finish is of medium length (35-40 sec.); pretty straightforward, but holding on just fine. Ash really likes the spicy/fruit interplay and thinks it’s a bit acidic due to the lack of tannin. I don’t see this getting better with time; drink now.

    B: 50, 5, 11, 15, 7 = (88 pts.)
