I tasted the 2004 Caymus Cab at Caymus in August. About all I can remember is that it was a good Cab, but not for $70! $50 is a good price, though. It is more substantial than the Phelps Cabernet and a 90/92 point effort.

I still have some 2001 & 2002 Caymus, but I've stopped buying the regular Cab and only buy the Special Selection, as I would rather have one bottle of the Special Selection instead of the two bottles of the Caymus Cabernet, especially at $70 plus tax.

funny... i am on the other side of the fence because i can source for low $50's while the SS is still $125+... basically i cant get 5 regulars or 2 SS's so i get the regular, and i like the wine as well... i still buy a bottle of SS here or there but not in the QTY that i used to
mpls wine guy,

That is a fantastic price. The lowest I have seen it for locally is $69. I have had it on three occasions. The first was very good. A lot of up front fruit but persistant tannins due to the youth of the wine. Second bottle was off..a little green and funky. Third bottle was very good as well. Used the Vinturri on it and it was more mellow than the first bottle.

To sum it up, at the price but it.

Yes, there is no right or wrong, you just buy what you like. The Caymus SS is expensive, but I can't get the Caymus Cabernet at that lower price, so I just buy fewer bottles.

BTW, after all of the price increases for the Bordeaux First Growths, that 1967 Latour you found was really a great bargain. As I remember, I paid $91 plus shipping, which is outstanding, as I have never seen one close to that price in the last 4 years. Thanks again! Also, that 1967 empty bottle is on display in my cellar.
