2004 Phelps Insignia

K&L has it for $159, substantially cheaper than $219. Do you still have interest in their wines at that price point? I paid $99 for the 02 at Costco, but I wouldn't expect to get the 02 for that price again, I believe most were somewhere near the 04 price range. Don't know if I'd bite at $159, but then again, I don't know if I'd bite at the 02 for $159 either.

I know that it is Insignia, but for the same price or less you can pick up two bottles of a wine made just across the valley at To Kalon, the Mondavi Reserve 2004 which scored 95. Or, if you are really looking for a deal, the regular Mondavi Cab is about $40 and scored a 93. Five bottles for the price of one? No brainer.

That's pretty steep for Insignia. I bought a case of 02 for about a hundred bucks each with case discount.

I'm not so sure Insignia going 100% Estate fruit is such a great plan either. Phelps seemed to be able to source pretty good fruit even in less than stellar years. My guess is it will be a lot more vintage dependent in the future.

This "almost" makes the pricing of Harlan, Sloan, L&M, etc look respectable. However, for the quality, I'd say that Schrader is on top at their sub-$100 price point. I'm sure that won't last long though Frown.

GPN Very well said! Also, I can find the Insignia most anywhere, while it is very difficult to find the Hillside Select, unless you're on their mailing list, and even then, it is limited. Still, the prices are about the same (actually, the Insignia costs more in this market).

Your comparison has clarified the issue. I'll take the Shafer Hilliside Select!

My thoughts exactly Roll Eyes If you can't get the Shafer, then it is not a option.
