Another recent purchase from Windebid. I bought three of them for $25 each. The cork had maybe 1/2 inch of saturation with a fair amount of sediment. I popped & poured, but got very nervous when I poured it because it looked like there was some bricking. Color was a red fading to rose (and maybe a touch of brown) at the edges and cloudy. I checked the bottle to see 14.6% alcohol -- now I'm really nervous.
Nose was classic mature pinot with red berries and I swear I can smell that alcohol (probably because I just read the label). All of my anxiety evaporates when it hits my tongue. Just perfect tartness coupled with those red fruits - not exactly cherry sweet tart, but close. The tannins are nicely integrated, and you can pick up that alcohol on the mid-palate and in the finish.
If you like relatively mature RRV pinots, you'd love this. Wow! A really nice wine, and probably the best twenty five buck I've spent since that hooker in Bangkhok! A happy ending indeed!
