Finished and in bottle, but not yet released. This was tasted at the domaine, non-blind.
Shows an amazing array of aromas and flavors – purple flowers, warm tar, crushed blueberries, all with thickly layered cocoa powder, graphite, plum sauce, worn leather and bittersweet chocolate. Huge loamy finish with terrific minerality buried in it. Endless length, with sweet, fleshy fruit that just sails on. Not sure what else Syrah could actually be capable of.
The cuvée is mostly from the Le Méal lieux-dit, along with some Béssards. It spent 34 months in barrel and had no racking. “NO” racking, says Jean-Louis Chave. (98-100 points).
