I liked the 2000 when I first had it then stuck a dozen away in my cellar for a few years as an experiment. I still have 2 left and the last few have been delightful - really soft expressions of the sangiovese wrapped up with some perfumed fruit. Worth the keeping really.

Haven't tried the '02 yet but may throw a few in cellar just to keep the experiment going.

I've enthusiastically sold maybe a literal ton of this wine but I have to say that I don't get it either. Ricardo Cottarella is, IMO, one of the best and most exciting vintners in Italy today and the hallmark of all his wines - Fobiano, Montiano, even the Di Majo Norante cheapie - is their effortless grace and balance. This stuff always seems too big, too showy, and slightly out of kilter to me. It never occurred to me to cellar it, so maybe that would make a difference. Thanks for the tip. I have always thought it had great stuffing, so maybe it'll calm down a bit if I lay it back a year or so.
