Day one: somewhat closed with aromas of berry and vanilla, tannic on the palate. Medium finish.

Second day (re-corked bottle): very nicely opened up on the nose. Full aroma's of raspberries, plum and nice vanilla tones. Hints of peper and clove Smooth but robust tannines, and a long, spicy finish. Some potential here. Drink 2007 - 2009. Very Good, a bargain at this price level (€8,99).

For Dutch readers: check your local AH if they have some left. After my first encounter with Sagrantino di Montefalco this summer in Italy, this was a pleasantly priced surprise!

I was quite suprised by it when I tasted it the first time during my second stay in Italy this summer. Frankly, I had never heard of it..... But it was a great experience. In particular the Colle Piano 2001 from Arnaldo Caprai was a serious distraction from my Brunello addiction! In particular the rich and spicy nose, palate and finish as one harmonic ensemble.

This Albaruta was less full-bodied, but still very worthwhile. In particular at this price. Its good to see that the relationship between Cecchi(owner of Albaruta) and Albert Hein (a dutch supermarket chain) is finally bringing something else to our country than just mediocore Chianti.
