  • 2000 Poderi Colla Barbaresco Roncaglie - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (3/4/2011)
Decanted one hour, consumed over the following three. Light ruby/orange colour with a good amount of bricking toward the rim. Very pretty, delicate aromas of dried roses, tar, peppermint, worn leather, sandalwood, licorice, alcohol, and a hint of prune. Medium-bodied, with minerals, rawhide leather, dried roses, sandalwood, dried orange rind. Moderate-length finish in which the tannins assert themselves and turn almost chalky. Based on the tannin and structure of the wine, I think this wine needs another few years in the cellar at a minimum and can hold for longer than that, assuming that the fruit doesn't fall out of the wine. The wine could see another couple points with additional aging. Drink 2014-2020. (89 pts.)
