Had one of these last night. Agree that the flavors were certainly more in the red fruit rather than the deeper blackcurrent range, etc. But, there was enough there for sure. Nice structure, didn't lose a bit over 1.5 hrs. Did have a different taste at the end.... pecan and cherry??? I'll go for that. Nice somewhat plush texture in the mouth. This wine had good reviews by WS and others, and does live up to them IMO. Forabout $19 or $20, wish I'd bought more.
This wine was 2nd WOTN back in a May tasting we did of late 90's/early 00s cali cabs or blends. To be honest, it wasn't an overly experienced tasting group, but it was comprised of folks that liked wine. All were blind tasted. 1997 Cinq Cepage was the no. 1. However the 00 Fran CS rated ahead of 97 Stags Leap Fay, and 99 Justin Isoceles in this tasting. I was surprised. It was no 3 on my list and a solid 90 point wine from memory.
