Brawny tannins and dark currant fruit, though this is softening a touch. Bacony and smoky edge to the finish. Does well after 30 minutes of air, but not in the league of this winery's 1994 through 1997 offerings. Drink now through 2011. 89 points.

James, I had a similar experience as posted in 2004:

It sells for $100 per bottle , so you expect a lot; but it delivers little. What has happened to Dalla Valle??? This 2000 Cabernet is an 87/90 pointer, at best. Not thick & rich as usual, but only remnants of its former self, and although the dark fruit is present, it is definitely short on the finish.

As you said, I guess it's softening a bit, but is still not what it use to be!
