1999 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Altero

Not decanted. Dark opaque ruby colour with a muted nose at first. After about an hour or so it really started to open up with violets and plum aromas on the nose. Medium-full bodied, excellent mouthfeel with plum, black cherry and spice flavours on a delicious finish. Modern style Brunello, but I like it...a lot. 94 pts.

Thanks for the note Fut & Steve. Have had this only once thus far - at a trade tasting when the '99's were being released - and thought it was terrific with excellent cellaring potential.

Thanks for the note, Steve. As you know, I love wines from Poggio Antico. As good as the Altero is, I always find myself drawn more to the white label "normale" and Riservas.

I think the only vintage of Altero I have is from '97. Maybe it's time to try one in the near future.

Please do try 1 as I have some aswell

Just a skosh and I enjoyed the '85 with friends Friday night. If this bottle was an example, the wine will age well.
