1998 was the first year I bought futures. It has now been 25 years since that vintage and the wines are drinking very well with many of the top wines still going strong and showing the ability to continue to age well.

The Right Bank did much better than the Left Bank in 1998 so my buying concentrated almost exclusively on that side of the Gironde. However, I have had the chance to try many Left Bank wines over the years from friends who have opened wines for me. 1998 produced big full bodied wines. Over the last year and a half I have tasted a handful of 1998's they have been impressive. Here are my scores (full notes can be searched on the board):

1998 Château Grand-Pontet- 91 points.

1998 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière- 94 points.

1998 Château Léoville Barton- 89 points.

1998 Château Mouton Rothschild- 97 points.

1998 Château Haut-Brion- 96 points.

Unfortunately, the only 1998's that I have left are a pair of Haut Brions. What does everyone have and does anyone want to share recent experiences with the 1998's?
